This form enables the retrieval of subsets of the core sample data stored in the ocean drilling database.
Complete only those fields on which you want to limit the query. For example, if you want to see all samples taken to fulfill sample request 16689A, you would specify the Request Number and Part fields, or you could specify it as a single (case-insensitive) input in the Requestor Code field.
At least one of the leg, site, hole, Core, Section, or Request/Lab Code identifiers must be specified. Because of the size of the OPD database, it is not efficient to download the entire core sample data set via the web. If this page does not meet your data request needs, please contact the Data Librarian.

Each sample is taken to fulfill the requirements of a research proposal (submitted by a 'requestor') or to fulfill minimum ODP data collection requirements ('laboratory' samples, which ensure that a uniform set of data is collected across legs).
Community sample requests are assigned a number and part (e.g. 16689A) or a mnemonic reflecting the requestors name (e.g., JAFFEE or XUIW). To find all samples for a particular requestor, enter the full requestor code in the 'Requestor Code' field. If you desire ALL samples fulfilling any community sample request, enter an asterisk (*) in the requestor code field.
Standard shipboard laboratory samples are categorized by codes that reflect the shipboard laboratory or instrumentation. Mnemonics are used here too: e.g., PAL for paleontology samples, XRAY for xray lab samples, etc. To find all samples originally taken for a particular shipboard lab, enter the code specific to that sample type in the 'Lab Code' field. If you desire to see ALL lab samples regardless of the specific laboratory, enter an asterisk (*) in the lab code field.
To obtain lists of the available 'requestor codes' and 'lab codes' see this web report: Curatorial Sampling Codes
A request number can be specified without the part number, but specifying just the part number will generate an error.
