The reentry cone in position over the moonpool. Protruding from the cone is a portion of the drill collar connected to the cone by a very precise running tool used to deploy and release the reentry cone assembly once it is in position on the seabed. Cam-actuated “dogs” (large round steel shafts) extend from the running tool to secure the drilling collar firmly to the cone. When the Superintendent and Offshore Installation Manager determine the cone is in the correct position, the Driller rotates the drill pipe three and a half turns to the right, the dogs retract, and the cone is released.
