SCIENCE UPDATE: Cores 305-U1309D-218R to -224R (1048.8 to 1082.4 mbsf, 87% recovery) are olivine gabbro. Grain size is variable on scales of a few cm to intervals of a few meters. Olivine abundance is generally 20%, and clinopyroxene/plagioclase ranges from 1:1 to 1:2, imparting a leucocratic character in plagioclase-rich intervals. Changes in grain size are commonly sharp, in many intervals steeply dipping to subvertical.
