Daily Science Report for 31 May 2013

LOCATION: In transit to Site U1417 (GOA18-2A)

SCIENCE UPDATE: The last line was released at 1209 h and the ship began the transit to Site U1417. The science party attended the Captain’s safety meeting and was given tours of the ship and core lab. The lab groups spent the remainder of the day learning how to use the core description software, the physical properties tools, becoming acquainted with the labs, and working on methods reports. The ship is estimated to arrive onsite 4 June at 1500 h.


Daily Science Report for 30 May

LOCATION: Ogden Point, Victoria, Canada

SCIENCE UPDATE: The science party had lab safety tours and was given presentations on computing on the ship and how they will be accomplishing the goals of the expedition. The scientists had the afternoon free to pick up any last-minute supplies. The ship is scheduled to leave Ogden Point at 1200 h on 31 May and begin the 1025 nmi transit to Site U1417 (GOA18-2A).


Daily Science Report for 29 May 2013

LOCATION: Ogden Point, Victoria, Canada

SCIENCE UPDATE: Expedition 341 began at 0745 h with the arrival of the ship at Ogden Point in Victoria, Canada on 29 May. All of the USIO staff and scientists moved onto the ship. We started our port call activities with the IODP-USIO staff crew changes and cross-over and loading and unloading of freight. The science party was given presentations about life onboard, ship safety, and an overview of the scientific objectives of the expedition.
