Daily Science Report for 31 March 2014

LOCATION: Keelung, Taiwan, Passenger Terminal, Berth E4

SCIENCE UPDATE: The science party arrived at the vessel before noon and all were checked into their cabins, except for one person who arrived late at night. In the early afternoon, a general welcome and introduction by the Staff Scientist was followed by a safety presentation given by the Ship’s Captain and Doctor. IT personnel explained how to get connected to the ship’s network and the Internet. The Assistant Lab Officer gave a presentation on laboratory safety, which was followed by ship safety tours. Port call activities continued according to the port call work plan.


Daily Science Report for 30 March 2014

LOCATION: Keelung, Taiwan, Passenger Terminal, Berth E4

SCIENCE UPDATE: The Izu Bonin Mariana Rear Arc Expedition (350) began at 0710 h with the first line ashore at Keelung Passenger Terminal, Berth E4. Port call activities began according to the port call work plan. The IODP technical crew change was completed before noon. The Co-chief Scientists and Staff Scientist for Expedition 350 boarded the vessel at noon, completed a ship tour, and finalized the science schedule for the next few days. The science party will board the vessel at noon on 31 March. Expected date of departure is the morning of 4 April. Expected arrival at first site, proposed site IBM-GT, is 8 April.
