Search Functions

The basic behavior of the search controls for all of the sample modules is the same. A user selects samples using one of the following methods:

Hierarchy search: “Select by Hierarchy tab”—follow the sample hierarchy (expedition, site, hole, core, section, etc.) to select samples for operation.

Parameter search: “Select by Hierarchy tab”—narrow search results by sample type, test list, depth, etc.

Combined hierarchy/parameter search: “Select by Hierarchy” tab.

TEXT_ID search: “Select by TEXT_ID” tab—enter one or more unique and valid sample TEXT_ID(s) to select samples for operation.

Search Type and Sample Selection Status

After applying one of the search methods, query results are returned in a results table in the bottom of the search screen. Samples on this result table have checkboxes to indicate which samples are selected for Cancel, Uncancel, Reparent, or Editing Samples. Hierarchy, parameter, and combined hierarchy/parameter searches return results with no checkboxes selected; the user must select the samples they wish to operate upon manually by checking the box next to the label_ID shown on the results table.

TEXT_ID searches, on the other hand, return results with all of the samples specifically searched for selected, provided the check boxes don’t violate other rules (e.g., a parent and child cannot both be selected for reparenting at the same time). See additional information in “TEXT_ID Searches,” below.
