Search the database
Introduction
The Scientific Ocean Drilling Bibliographic database contains more than 32,000 publication records related to Deep Sea Drilling Project (DSDP), Ocean Drilling Program (ODP), Integrated Ocean Drilling Program, and International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) research spanning from 1969 to the present. Approximately 30% of the citations are from publications produced by the drilling programs (e.g., ODP Proceedings series) and 70% are from serial publications, abstracts, conference proceedings, maps, etc. The database is hosted by the American Geosciences Institute (AGI) and is updated on a weekly basis from entries made to the GeoRef database. The database interface can be viewed in multiple languages (select language on database home page).
IODP Member Services
Annual analyses of the database are available for download. In addition, member countries/consortiums can request statistics on what their authors are publishing. Statistics are gathered based on the affiliation of the first and/or contributing authors. Statistics can be provided on where and how often authors are publishing. Searches are based on the most recent AGI database export. To make a request, please contact Citations@iodp.tamu.edu.
User Guide
Conduct a Database Search
You may search individual fields, multiple fields, or all fields at once. Field categories include: title, author, affiliation, volume title, volume author, source, year of publication, research program, keywords, database record ID, and journal ISSN. Searching by All Fields allows searching by DOI or geographic coordinates. The geographic search allows searching for database records by location on a map.
After you enter search parameters, click “Find.” The search results will be displayed in list format. From this list select a title to view the records in brief or full record format with abstract, or save records to your favorites list, select records to email, text, export, print, save, or link to the full text at the publisher’s site. A maximum of 100 records will display on each screen.
Conduct Additional Searches
The search results display includes predefined keyword and category searches that can be run within the search results and results filters applied to search results (see below). Or run a new search, advanced search for multiple fields, geographic search, or search for new items or items added to the database during a specific time period.
Filter Search Results
The search results displays filters to narrow the search results by year of publication, publication format (journal article, monograph, technical report, thesis, etc.), region (Indian Ocean, Japan Sea, Izu-Bonin Arc, etc.), research program (DSDP, ODP, IODP, IODP2), expedition or leg, site, author, or language. Filters can be retained for additional searches.
Browse Database
For more general results, the database can be “browsed” by author, author affiliation, first author, first author affiliation, topic, journal, or expedition/leg. Browsing the database gives record counts for statistical analysis or a list of record metadata.
Set up an Account
Setting up a user account allows saving records to lists, adding notes to records, and saving favorite searches. To set up an account, click “Login.”
Download Records and Citations
Bibliographic metadata can be exported with tagging to support several bibliographic applications: RefWorks, EndNote, EndNote web, RDF, BibTeX, RIS, MARC, and MARCXML. Additionally, citations can be exported formatted in APA, Chicago, or MLA style.
