Sea Trials Transit
Daily Science Report for 10 February 2009
LOCATION: Southeast of Guam in transit to Site 807 (leaving the Mariana trench and entering the Central Pacific)
SCIENCE UPDATE: Continuing with introductory presentations for the Readiness Assessment Committee in the morning: Sample Master (sample entering application), Web Tabular (data retrieval application), core flow in the core lab and sampling demonstration. In the afternoon, the scientists received Òhands onÓ sampling training and got tours of the chemistry lab and the physical property facilities. USIO internal pre-acceptance activities and acceptance team meetings continued during the day.

Scientists inspect each core visually and record properties such as color, texture, grain size, disturbance, and faulting. Monitors are used to examine core images at high magnification, view other data, and input the visual decscription notes into the database. The height of the core tables can be adjusted for comfort. The core description area was enlarged by 46%.
