Giancarlo Scardia (Paleomagnetist/Stratigraphic Correlator, Universidade Estadual Paulista, Brazil) places a sample in the Agico spinner magnetometer. This type of magnetometer was developed in the early 1960s to measure the magnetization of sediment and rock samples. Measurements on “pmag cube” samples are taken in three different orientations in this instrument because the magnetization vector is three-dimensional.
