Peter Clift (Co-Chief Scientist, Louisiana State University, USA) observes the “core dance” on the catwalk. Each time a core arrives on deck, the marine technicians gather to bring the core from the drill floor to the catwalk, cut it into sections, and curate it. Very few words are exchanged because each tech knows his or her job for the “dance.” The length of time between cores varies from ~15 minutes in very shallow water to many hours when coring into hard rock.
