An empty stage awaits: The core receiving platform before the first core arrives. Six stations with six sets of arms will hold the 9.5 m long core liner. As seen in other images, the core liner containing the sample material is hand carried by the technicians to the core receiving platform. The liner is then curated and cut into 150 cm sections. The sections are then hand carried into the laboratory to begin processing. Each station has the necessary tools to cut, cap, and seal each section. The color of the end caps indicates the orientation of the core and whether a sample has been taken from the end. (Credit: Bill Crawford, IODP JRSO) [Photo ID: exp353_014]
