Data & Sample MoratoriumWhy is There a Moratorium?IODP data and samples are typically protected by a 1-year postcruise moratorium, during which time data and samples from a particular expedition are available only to that expedition's science party and approved shore-based participants. Longer moratorium periods may be imposed for joint expeditions, where sampling takes place postcruise at a shore-based repository. Data and samples whose moratorium has expired are available to the scientific and educational communities under the obligations outlined in the IODP Sample, Data, and Obligations Policy.
