IODP Core Repositories

IODP maintains three main core repositories: BCR, GCR, and KCC. Please contact one of the curators to verify the location of cores you are interested in sampling.

Sample information can be obtained from the Janus database (ODP Legs and IODP expeditions through 312) or the LIMS database (starting with IODP expedition 317).

Note: Samples from USIO expeditions taken postcruise at the Kochi or Bremen repositores can be accessed via J-CORES (Kochi) or Pangaea (Bremen).

The Bremen Core Repository (BCR) is located at the University of Bremen, Bremen, Germany. The repository houses cores collected from the Atlantic and Arctic Oceans (north of the Bering Strait).

The Gulf Coast Repository (GCR) is located at Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas, USA. The repository houses cores from the Pacific Ocean (Pacific plate east of western boundary), the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico, and the Southern Ocean (south of 60° except Kerguelen Plateau).

Rutgers Core Repository

ODP Legs: 150X, 174AX

The Rutgers/NJGS Core Repository is a satellite repository of the GCR and houses New Jersey and Delaware land-based cores.

East Coast Repository & West Coast Repository

The East Coast Repository (ECR) at Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory and the West Coast Repository (WCR) at Scripps Institution of Oceanography closed in September 2008. Their core collections were redistributed among the BCR, GCR, and KCC according to the same geographic distribution as IODP cores.
